The Morning Star Rising on the First Day

Moving Toward a Closer Relationship with God

There are three distinct levels of relationship that man can achieve with God, and each has its own set of unique benefits and rewards. Interestingly, they are not well understood by many Christians and this often leads to disappointment as some enter into ministry unprepared. One of the fundamentals to entering into ministry is to have an established relationship with God. The reason for this is that the ministry of Jesus is spiritual warfare and as such, one confronts the evil principalities and powers of the spiritual world. As in all warfare, the fighters are in danger of being attacked and possibly loosing their lives. Running into a battlefield unprepared is foolish. Winning battles requires soldiers that have been well trained, well equipped and well directed. This is why Paul made the following proclamation in his letter to the Ephesians:

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— 19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

The body of Christ - On Earth as it is Heaven

But all of this requires preparation. Going out and buying a helmet, a flack jacket and a rifle will not make you a soldier. Intense training is required as is proper leadership. It this regard we look to Jesus and His Holy Spirit. The life of Jesus, His words and actions as recorded in the Bible are all examples of spiritual warfare. In His words and actions we can clearly see how they differ from ours. The journey toward God requires a transformation from our nature to His. When we are adequately prepared the Holy Spirit will lead us into the battle just as He led Jesus. The Holy Spirit will lead us to become like Him. This is confirmed in the following scriptures:

You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden (Matt 5:14).

Jesus the Light of the World is Transfigured before His Disciples

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father (John 14:11-13).

Since everyone is created with a purpose, our relationship with God substantially affects our ability to complete our mission and destiny with God. As we uncover the basic principles of relationship with God, what we find is that in order to move closer to God we must go through a metamorphous in which we change our nature from what we were to an entirely new creature whose has conformed to God. In essence, the pupa becomes the butterfly in the eyes of God.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new (2 Cor. 5:17).

The transformation often requires a true heart, a burning desire to develop a relationship with God and in some cases a substantial effort that in some cases can take years. In essence, there is a calling to complete the baptismal promise of our childhood by conforming our mind, heart and spirit to God, so that we become effective in achieving our purpose in life.

The bottom line here is that understanding the types of relationships possible with God means that if you are sincerely seeking Jesus you will then find the pathway that leads to a closer relationship with Him and you will find the breakthroughs and receive the protection you may be praying for.

Jesus is the Light of the Wordl

With that said, lets start by looking at what these levels are, what they mean and then identify the path to moving toward a closer relationship with God.

The three levels of relationship possible with God are; A relationship of grace, a relationship of empowerment and a relationship of covenant. At a very basic level, the Relationship of Grace has been established as we proclaim that Jesus is God’s Son, who gave up His life for us as redemption for our sins. So, in effect, establishment of this relationship only requires our sincere proclamation of our belief in Jesus. Once this relationship has been established, the serious work of moving toward our baptism is conducted and this work is the preparatory work required to establish a relationship of empowerment, which is the next level of relationship. Once this level has been achieved, our relationship with the Father become personal, our pathway becomes illuminated and our prayers and actions become effective in bringing down the powers of evil. The final level is the establishment of a relationship of Covenant. At this level our relationship with God is as a precious friend that has the confidence of God. People like Moses and Elijah would fall into this category. Peter, John and Andrew would also qualify as Jesus had twelve disciples but only three saw the transfiguration on the mountain. At this level we talk to God face to face and we have the support of God’s angels in our ministry.

As we move forward in subsequent postings I will drill down on these levels and how one can work toward achieving a closer relationship with God. By the way, it should be noted that all of this work has been derived from a study of the Tabernacle that was built to the specifications of God to become the place where God would dwell with His people. The discovery of this study was that every component and object found in the Tabernacle is prophetic of Jesus and His words and actions on earth. Most of the blog posting contained in this web site have been devoted to this subject.

A Plan to Launch Online Christian Education Services

In our past two postings we have looked at the core beliefs and core values of a Christian ministry. We have done this after recommending that Christians of all denominations work together toward developing educational and vocational course-ware to assist the poor and disenfranchised of the world to better care for their families and therein improve their lives and living standards. All of this of course, would be used to also deliver the message of Christianity while delivering practical living messages.

Jesus Speaks to the Multitude

We as Christians, therefore, should unite on these core values and beliefs by sharing what we have with the world. More specifically, we must share our knowledge, skills, and know how. To use an old analogy, we must teach them to fish rather than simply giving them fish. This being the case, we must proceed hand in hand toward the development and use of technologies that enable us to work together more effectively (presented previously.) In walking together in this way, we will demonstrate the love we have for our brothers and sisters in the world, and we will be doing what Jesus would have us do—have compassion on the poor and hungry.

Jesus Heals the Leper

One major goal of this ministry is the installation of a global network of Christian training centers that will change the lives of the people of the world. The people of the world will be touched by the words of truth about Jesus. The poor and impoverished of the world will be empowered to permanently improve the quality of their life and of future generations as well. The establishment of these facilities is designed to demonstrate the love of Jesus by preaching the gospel, healing the sick, caring for the hungry, visiting the imprisoned, clothing the naked, and caring and nurturing them in love. The ultimate hope is to enable the disenfranchised and poor to lead their countries to a higher standard of living by training them in religious, cultural, language, technical, and practical skills.

This all starts with the launching of the technology and capabilities identified in our prior postings. Missions will develop the training school component for the missionaries of the Christian nation. Cross denominational missions will develop a network of followers from all denominations, who will, in turn enter the mission field. They will provide hands-on experience in spiritual and life skills. They will focus on leadership principles with the goal of building nations of Christian leaders. It will be a model for others that will be built around the world.

Jesus Washes the Disciples Feet

The overall objective is to systematically build and partner with existing Christian ministries to:

Achieve the vision through leverage of all the skills and expertise of the Christian body.

Establish alliances with key individuals and corporations for materials and supplies.

Negotiate agreements with other nations for facilities.

Grow the body of Christ.

Communicate the vision.

Align the world of Christianity through common ministries.

Do everything possible, and then step back and watch God take over and do the impossible.

THE VISION OF A WORLD WON FOR JESUS

In our last posting a prominent man in our church told me he had a message to deliver to me that came from God. He told me to possess the vision. In today’s posting I will talk about what was communicated in this message.

As this man talked to me he communicated a message that brought to mind the original vision of our church that I had heard so much about from the old timers there. The vision was of a world won for Jesus. In looking at it now I would say that this end state vision was exactly the same as the vision that I had of a budding earth that bloomed into a world filled with Jesus at its center (Surrender-is-Followed-by-a-Glorious-Vision), as it communicates exactly the same end result.

To achieve the vision they were to deploy something they called “A Bridge to the World.” While I did not know much about what this meant at the time, I made a point to learn more about it by talking with people in the church that did.

The bridge to the world was a strategy was to deploy Christian cultural centers around the world that were to be modeled after our church. These centers would provide both missionary and practical training for the express purpose of improving the quality of life for the disenfranchised peoples that they served.

The missionary component of the Bridge would help people develop a more intimate relationship with God which would draw them into the Christian community. It would then provide an educational component to develop spiritual growth, preparation for ministry and leadership training.

Jesus Speaks to the Multitude

The practical training component of the Bridge would provide a library of training material that would enable the people of the community to acquire the expertise they needed to improve their livelihood and standard of living. These materials would be delivered and supported by accomplished advisors and educators.

In our next posting we will talk about how all of this was to be accomplished.

The Morning Star Rising on the First Day

A Message to Possess the Vision

One day I was visiting at the church office when a Christian associate came into the office. He excitedly called me over and announced that God had given him a message for me. He communicated the message to me over the next few minutes. The more he talked the more thrilled I became. What he gave me was a complex message. So, I will explain it by breaking it into two major sections: enthusiasm and possess the vision.

ENTHUSIASM

The first part of the message dealt with enthusiasm, and this subject certainly applied to me. I naturally tend to be low key and do not often show a great deal of emotion, so this message was instructional.

POSSESS THE VISION

Possessing the vision was the real meat of the message. Most certainly God had been very generous to me in the vision department over the years. After all, there was the vision of the earth blooming with Jesus at its center, the glowing cross of blood (A-Vision-of-the-Living-Cross-of-Jesus), the penetrating light hitting the earth (Vision-of-an-Enlarging-Sun), the straight path (The-Bride-of-Christ-is-to-Make-a-Straight-Path-for-the-Return-of-Jesus), and the bride of Christ (The-Spiritual-Realm-of-the-Bride-of-Christ). While all of these visions were spectacular and conveyed a powerful message, I would have to say that I did not possess them. Possession implies ownership, and I believed at the time that God owned these visions and would be the One to set them in motion and sustain them. But now that I think about it, why would God need to show them to me? God is certainly able to get all of these things accomplished without me. But, since He gave these visions to me, He must have a role for me to play in bringing them to reality.

Here I was again receiving messages from God that were sent to me at an incredible rate and in an unmistakable way. I was thinking that God was going to move in mighty ways, when all along He wanted me to take action regarding the vision. Even this direct message did not deliver this realization to me until several years later. I guess I am not one of the mental giants of the universe. The good news is that God does not need a mental giant; He only needs someone who believes in Him without doubting and who will do His will.

The Tabernacle Is Prophetic Of Jesus

The Tabernacle was built to be the earthly abode of God: the place where God would dwell among His people. By looking at the following diagram you will be able to see how the Tabernacle was organized.

tabernacle-diagram2

There will also be pictures associated with the folowing text that may help in visualizing what the tabernacle may have looked like.

The Tabernacle
The Tabernacle

The Tabernacle

Moses built the Tabernacle in strict conformance to the specifications given by God. For example, in the following scripture God gives Moses a detailed list of items that are required to build the Tabernacle:

Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: “Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring Me an offering. From everyone who gives it willingly with his heart you shall take My offering. And this is the offering which you shall take from them: gold, silver, and bronze; blue, purple, and scarlet thread, fine linen, and goats’ hair; ram skins dyed red, badger skins, and acacia wood; oil for the light, and spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet incense; onyx stones, and stones to be set in the ephod and in the breastplate. And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them. According to all that I show you, that is, the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furnishings, just so you shall make it.” (Exodus 25:1-9)

Statements like this one are frequently found in the scriptures written by Moses. Many of these references emphasize building of the Tabernacle precisely to God’s instructions. This fact suggests that the form and content of the Tabernacle is extremely important to God; that perhaps it is designed on a heavenly model, one that will enable Him to dwell among His people. If this is the case, then the Tabernacle must be prophetic of the Christ who would also come to dwell with God’s people. Over the centuries the intention of God to dwell with His people did not change as even today, He continues to strive to restore the relationship man lost with Him at the fall. Therefore, the scriptures that define the specifications, processes and objects found in the Tabernacle reflect the will of God to abide with us, and as a result, must also be applicable to the attributes, words and life of Christ who was sent to accomplish God’s intention.

Jesus, Moses and the Tabernacle
Jesus, Moses and the Tabernacle

Jesus is the Fulfillment of the Tabernacle

We are going to look at the Tabernacle scriptures as they are prophetic of Christ. If Jesus is the Christ then the attributes and characteristics of the Tabernacle must be clearly demonstrated in His words and deeds. What we are about to reveal is that there is a precise correlation between the Tabernacle and Jesus. It is for this reason that we will use the scriptural specifications for each component of the Tabernacle to prove that Jesus is the Christ. In the process we will also uncover many hidden attributes of Jesus that will serve to help us better understand His nature.

The Ascension of Jesus
The Ascension of Jesus

Remember that Jesus claimed to be “the Way, the Truth and the Life.” By referencing the diagram above we can see that these names (the Way, the Truth and the Life) are also used to identify the entryways into the major compartments of the Tabernacle. The Way leads us into the Courtyard,

The Tabernacle Courtyard
The Tabernacle Courtyard

the Truth leads us into the Holy Place,

Priest in the Holy Place of the Tabernacle
Priest in the Holy Place of the Tabernacle

and the Life leads us into the Most Holy Place.

priest-and-holy-of-holies

It should also be noted that the Tabernacle is constructed in such a way that these passageways must be entered in this prescribed sequence. Therefore, the Way must be entered prior to entering the Truth, and in turn, the Truth must be entered prior to entering the Life.

What we have discovered here is that the words of Jesus that proclaim His identity lead us directly to the Tabernacle. Therefore His claim is that He is the portal into the places that God designed as the place to dwell with His people here on earth. Therefore, our plan is to investigate each of these three chambers in an effort to identify what it is that Jesus is leading us toward. What we will find is that Jesus is drawing us into a closer relationship with God the Father. Jesus uses the Tabernacle as a road map for us to understand what it is that we will find when we enter into a personal relationship with Him. We can proceed into Jesus with confidence because the actions and words of His life demonstrate that He is a far superior substitution for each and every component of the Tabernacle. This proof is a major focus of this blog and the teachings that accompany it will lead us into a much better understanding of who Jesus is. This in turn will lead us to grow and strengthen our relationship with Him.

From a bigger picture point of view, we are about to discover that the structure of the Tabernacle will communicate that there are three separate and distinct levels of relationship that a person can have with God. That these relationships can only be obtained in a prescribed sequence that corresponds to chambers of the Tabernacle. In fact, we will develop a progressively deeper relationship with God as we enter each successive chamber and find the gifts that God has waiting for those who seek Him with all their heart.

While all of this is quite mysterious at a high level, we plan to present the details in subsequent postings. For now we will present a high level overview of our journey through the Tabernacle and its correlation with the life of Jesus. With that said let us start with the Tabernacle Courtyard. The Morning Star Rising on the First Day

Read my story by ordering my book, “Possess the Vision”

Christian Love Does Not Envy

Today we present the envy-less love demonstrated by Jesus as yet another example of Christian love. Previously we introduced the subject, “Love does not Envy,” in a post (What-is-Love) that communicated Paul’s writings found in the First Letter to the Corinthians.

The Power of Prayer

Love makes us blind to the things that other people have. Our acts of kindness (Love-is-Kind) and long suffering (Love-Suffers-Long) are not withheld because of the things that others have. Love is not diminished because our neighbor has a bigger house, a nicer car, a more successful ministry, a gift from God, or just happens to be more popular than we are. We are called to love one another just as Jesus loved us.

In the following scripture Jesus demonstrates this principle as He is not envious of an unknown man who had been ministering to other in the name of Jesus. Here is the story:

Now John answered and said, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow with us.” But Jesus said to him, “Do not forbid him, for he who is not against us is on our side.” (Luke 9:49 – 50)

Jesus Confronting the Scribes and Pharisees

Jesus was not envious of the man who had been casting out demons like He Himself had been doing. He was not concerned that an unknown man was using His name in doing so. In fact, since He asked no questions about the man we can assume that the questions we would normally ask about the man were irrelevant. Questions like the following. What denomination does he belong to? What are his core beliefs? Or what sins has he been guilty of in the past? Jesus was not even concerned about the doctrine or creed the man believed in.

Jesus’ lesson to His disciples is crystal clear, none of these things are of any importance. Jesus gives His disciples this lesson so that if they see a similar circumstance in the future that their actions will be different. If these other things were of importance He would have said so.

The only thing that was important was the fact that the man loved his brothers by casting out demons in Jesus name. Therefore, he was obedient to the new commandment that Jesus gave us to love one another and in doing so was carrying out the mission that the Father gave Jesus. So should it also be with us.

When reading this passage we must ask ourselves, is this how I act? Am I ready and willing to give credit to other ministers in the name of Jesus? Can I love others despite their Christian doctrine? Can I love the affluent minister, the politically powerful congressmen and the popular personalities who are demonstrating their love of others in the name of Jesus? Am I ready and willing to pray that God’s blessings be upon all of them? The bottom line here is that love is manifest with out envy.

The purpose of these publications is to assist others who is seeking to become more like their savior Jesus Christ. Our approach is to communicate that the life and words of Jesus are the perfect model of what we hope to become. Our expectation is that the reader will contrast their own words and actions to those of Jesus and ask the Holy Spirit to help them to discover and correct their shortcomings. We suggest that every person in ministry reflect upon these examples of Christian love.

We have presented a number of posting that address the principles of Christian Love. Each of them is reinforced by examples taken from the life and words of Jesus. Expect Miracles in the Name of Jesus

Interestingly enough, Jesus was sent to earth as an ordinary man. This ordinary man was then empowered by the Holy Spirit and entered into the ministry that His Father gave Him. As we have been discussing all along, Jesus left us His ministry to carry forward and He left us His life as an example of what we should become and what kinds of things we should do. Therefore, if Jesus is to be our model of the life that we should also live, then we also should expect to enter into our ministry empowered by the Holy Spirit to do the will of the Father. To explore this a bit further, let’s take a look at an example of how Jesus sent His disciples into ministry:

After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither He himself would come. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. Luke 10:1-9

Jesus sent the seventy to the places that He would also go. He empowered them to heal the sick and to communicate that the kingdom of God is near. He therefore gives them the mission of doing the will of the Father and personally empowers them with the Holy Spirit. We know that this is true because of His words in the following scripture:

Jesus did what He saw the Father do:

Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will. For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” (John 5:19-24)

In addition, Jesus prayed for our unity with God. He prayed that we be one with Him — We in Him, and He in us — the Father in Him and He in the Father. If we are to be one with Jesus then we will do the things that Jesus shows us. Therefore, the Life of Jesus is the perfect life that we should emulate. We should seek to do as He did, say the things that He said and have the same effect that He did when He walked the earth. Through out the course of our postings we have presented many examples that support the proposition that the life of Jesus was given to us to be used as the model of what we can become.

All that is required is to step out in faith in response to what Jesus places in your heart. Eliminate all doubt and concern about looking foolish as God rewards people who have perfect faith. He is looking for people who are willing to risk looking like fools in the eyes of nonbelievers because it is only when they see the impossible achieved by the hand of God that they will truly come to believe that God exists.

The Bible is filled with people who had this kind of faith in God. Moses had the faith to lift His staff in expectation that the waters of the Jordan River would part. Moses had perfect faith that God support His mission because he received it directly from God. He therefore was not concerned about the opinions of the people. When the waters parted the people knew that God had delivered them.

It was the same in the life of Jesus. He had to speak words of faith to cast out demons and to heal the sick. He could do this because the direction He was undertaking was one that the Father showed Him. He had to put his reputation on the line that the Father would honor and support His actions in support of His mission that the Father gave Him. He certainly was not concerned with what others might think about these actions. There certainly was no concern for the opinions of the Scribes, the Pharisees, the money changers or the demons.

We, in turn, have to take action that demonstrates our faith in God to support the initiatives that God gives us. We have to initiate the action and have faith to know beyond doubt that He will support what He initiates. If we do these things, then we will be like Jesus. Take the step, speak the word, and take the action necessary to get things moving. Once that is accomplished, then simply step back and watch the power of the Holy Spirit take action.

The Divided Christian Heart

The Divided Christian Heart

Our divisions as a Christian nation are not simply the differences between denominations (as addressed in our past few postings). We have become ineffective because we have failed to love as Jesus taught us. In many cases our hearts have grown hard to the cries of the poor and defenseless. This certainly is the case in regard to the issues of abortion, which is dividing Christians all across this country away from the love of God.

Jesus Overlooking Jerusalem

Unfortunately, many Christian women stand with their atheist sisters on abortion and even speak against their church regarding its antiabortion policies. Others follow the lead of their political party, claiming that women should have the right to choose. In both cases these people not only stand in defiance of their own church but to their God as well. God’s commandment not to kill is not just a Christian commandment but one that is observed by Jews and Muslims as well. This commandment therefore is acknowledged by eighty percent of the world’s people.

Moses and the Ten Comandments

The aborting laws in this country legalize the murder of the most innocent of God’s creatures, the unborn child. Therefore, the United States government stands against the law of God on this issue. This is a sin against our nation! When one looks at the writings in the bible they find that time and again God defends the poor and the disenfranchised and brings down those that oppress them. So I would say to America, change your policies or suffer the consequences.

The Walls of Jerico fall Befor the Ark

On a personal basis, I believe that a similar warning is appropriate to everyone who actively supports abortion. The vast majority of scientists agree that the fetus is in fact a living person. God fearing people can not stand silent on this issue because it would be contrary to having the love and compassion of Jesus in our heart.

Do we as Christians actually put more faith in the freedoms espoused by the women’s movement, our political parties, or event the laws of our nation than we do the commandments of God? Did Jesus send us on a mission to save lives or to kill the poor and defenseless? Can anything be poorer or more defenseless than that of the unborn child? The Christian love is to be a love for others, not a focus on self.

Let the Children Come to Me

Let the Children Come to Me

As a Godly person how can even debate abortion? Oh, there are lots of excuses used to cover up the ugliness of the deeds committed, but quite frankly they are all a sham. One excuse often used is that a child is not alive until it passes through its mother’s womb. How convenient to view things this way despite all the scientific evidence that shows the baby to be alive in the womb. One interesting point is that even the word “abortion”, proclaims the deed to be the killing of the child. The word “abortion” means to end it, or stop. So when the life of a child is aborted it is also ended. The deliberate termination of a life is murder. Abortion also terminates that child’s God given mission and such acts are the work of the devil. These are the activities that we as Christians must fight to prevent, not support.

How then can this condition endure when 75% of the nation is supposedly Christian? Is it because we are a house divided? If this is the case may God have mercy upon all of us because Jesus said that a house divided can not stand. I say then that all of us who have the fear of God and who have Christian love in their hearts: unite not on the basis of your denomination but on the principals that come from God’s love. Work together across all organizational boundaries toward a policy of life. Work with your brothers to illuminate the truth of this issue wherever you go. Unite with your true brothers in the Lord to tear down the sacred pillars of this evil establishment. Take a stand for what is right in the eyes of God. Remember that the existing policy is a sin against our entire nation.

Please do what you can and may God bless you for your active contribution.

The Spiritual Nature of Jesus’ Words

The words of Jesus were sometimes misunderstood by His disciples and others.

Jesus "The light of the World," Heals a Blind Man

Jesus "The light of the World," Heals a Blind Man

This is because Jesus spoke in spiritual terms, of the things that He saw the Father accomplish, and of what He saw in heaven. His communication therefore, had to be in the form of parables:

And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”  He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says: ‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, And seeing you will see and not perceive; For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.’  But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it. (Matthew 13:10)

Parables are comparisons, analogies and descriptions of spiritual truth. However, they are communicated in earthly terms so that we can understand their spiritual reality, which we cannot perceive:

Then His disciples asked Him, saying, “What does this parable mean?” And He said, “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is given in parables, that ‘Seeing they may not see, And hearing they may not understand.’” (Luke 8:9-10)

The Purpose of Jesus’ Actions

It is only when we look at the purpose of Jesus’ actions that we begin to see God’s purpose for our own existence upon this earth. His actions reveal the heart of the Father to us, His children. Jesus’ purpose was to demonstrate the Fathers’ love. This being the case, everyone who earnestly seeks God with all of their heart, soul, mind and strength will seek to demonstrate this love as well, and in doing so become like Jesus.

‘And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. (Mark 12:30 )

Our Call is to be like Jesus

In our last posting we introduced the following scripture:

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. (John 14:12)

Can you imagine doing greater things than Jesus? That would be a truly awesome thing to experience. Just think about doing things that are greater than walking on the water,

Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. (Matthew 14:25)

Jesus Pulls Peter From the Water

Jesus Pulls Peter From the Water

feeding a multitude with a few fish and loaves,

So the multitude marveled when they saw the mute speaking, the maimed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel. Now Jesus called His disciples to Himself and said, “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. And I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way. Then His disciples said to Him, “Where could we get enough bread in the wilderness to fill such a great multitude?”  Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven, and a few little fish.”  So He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. And He took the seven loaves and the fish and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitude. So they all ate and were filled, and they took up seven large baskets full of the fragments that were left. Now those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children. And He sent away the multitude, got into the boat, and came to the region of Magdala. (Matthew 15:32-39)

raising the dead,

And some of them said, “Could not this Man, who opened the eyes of the blind, also have kept this man from dying?”  Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”  Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?”  Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.”  Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!”  And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with grave clothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.” (John 11:37 – 44)

or rising from the dead Himself.

Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?  He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ (Luke 24: 3 – 7)

The Resurrection

The Resurrection

All the same, if we believe that He calls us to do what He did and more, then we must look to Him as our Teacher who will enable us to be perfectly trained to accomplish what He has promised. In the following example, we see that training has an impact on our ability to be like Jesus in this way:

And He spoke a parable to them: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch? A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.” (Luke 6:39-40)

One of the objectives of this work is to look at the life of Jesus as never before so that we can see the prefect model that the Father has sent to us. The next few passages further communicate God’s desire for us to become like Him. Now it is up to us to take action by moving toward this goal:

Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect. Matthew 5:48)

I (Jesus) in them, and You (God)  in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. (John 17:23)

Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,…  (Hebrews 6:1)
