Jesus and Moses Discuss the Fulfillment of the Tabernacle

Our most recent postings have identified the Golden Altar of Incense as the place for spiritual warfare because the smoke that rose  up to heaven from it has been perceived as symbolic of the prayers of the people going up to heaven. In addition, we have concluded that Jesus is the fulfillment (a far superior replacement for the functionality and purpose) of the Golden Altar. This conclusion is demonstrated in the life actions, words and prayers of Jesus, as they have been instrumental in bringing down the strongholds of evil that had held us captive.

The Golden Altar of Incense

The Golden Altar of the Tabernacle

In a prior posting we provided information that demonstrated that Jesus has ascended to heaven to prepare a place for us (the fulfillment of the Promised Land). In addition, we quoted His words that reveal that violence (spiritual warfare) is necessary to take heaven by force. For anyone interested in reviewing this posting, please follow the following link: Jesus-Leads-us-To-The-Spiritual-Promised-Land

Our last posting addressed how the Tabernacle was instrumental in the parting of the waters of the Jordan River in enabling the nation to cross over dry land and proceed into the Promised Land. We also communicated how the walls of Jericho fell as the Ark of the Covenant (a component of the Tabernacle) was carried before the army of Israel, leading it into battle. Again, here is the link to this posting for anyone who would like to review it: Jesus-Our-Tabernacle-Leads-Us-To-The-Promised-Land

In each of these cases these historical events were predictive of the Life of Jesus and we plan to demonstrate how right here. To do this we will use the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan.

John Baptizes Jesus in the Jordan River

John Baptizes Jesus in the Jordan River

In this event Jesus crossed over the Jordan River as did the Tabernacle. In addition, both also initiated the ministry of leading the people into the Promised Land. In addition, both Jesus and the Tabernacle were successful in spiritual warfare. In the case of the Tabernacle (the Ark of the Covenant) the walls of Jericho fell down allowing the nation of Israel to take the city. Jesus achieved a similar circumstance in His victory over Satan in the wilderness. His victory enabled us to enter into HIs spiritual warfare as he tore down the walls that kept us captive to sin and the domination of the devil. Lets take a look at scripture to reinforce this a bit:

And he preached, saying, “There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove. Then a voice came from heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness. And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him. (Mark 1:7-13)

One of the interesting correlations here is the parallel of the parting of the waters of the Jordan to the parting of the heavens as God proclaimed Jesus’ identity. This significance of this is that the Promised Land is symbolic of a much bigger promise. It is symbolic of of heaven and this is the Promised Land that Jesus leads us into.

This verse also references the temptation by Satan in the wilderness.

Jesus is Tempted on the Mountain

Jesus is Tempted on the Mountain

Here again the victory of Jesus over Satan is a parallel to the walls of Jericho falling down in that His victory (of not sinning) opened the door for us to take the Promised Land of heaven with our spiritual violence. In other words our prayers through Jesus are effective against the forces of evil because Jesus has overcome evil. Evil has no power over Jesus as He is without sin. As we enter into Him and become one with Him our actions start to become effective just as they were for Jesus when He walked the earth.

Our most recent postings have identified the Golden Altar of Incense as the place for spiritual warfare because the smoke from it goes up to heaven and is perceived as the prayers of the people going up to God. In addition, we have concluded that Jesus is the fulfillment (a far superior replacement for the functionality and purpose) of the Golden Altar. This conclusion is demonstrated in His life actions, words and prayers, as they were all instrumental in bringing down the strongholds of evil that had previously held us captive.

The Golden Altar of Incense

The Golden Altar of Incense

In our last posting we provided information that demonstrated that Jesus has gone before us up into heaven to prepare a place for us (the fulfillment of the Promised Land). In addition, we quoted His words that reveal the violence (spiritual warfare) necessary to take heaven by force. Here is the link to this section: Jesus-Leads-us-To-The-Spiritual-Promised-Land

So, by drilling down on these subjects a bit we get an appreciation for the spiritual purpose of the Tabernacle, and since the Tabernacle is prophetic of Jesus we likewise get to see what the spiritual warfare of Jesus is all about as well. What we are about to find is that the purpose of the Tabernacle was to bring us closer to God and to guide us into the Promised Land. Since Jesus is the fulfillment of the Tabernacles’ prophesy, we will find that this is also the mission of Jesus as well. It is true for the collective body of Christians (the bride) and it is true for each of us individually.

Today I would like to present how the Ark of the Covenant was instrumental in leading the people into the Promised Land.

The Ark Leads the People to Canaan

The Ark Leads the People to Canaan

So Joshua said to the children of Israel, “Come here, and hear the words of the LORD your God.” And Joshua said, “By this you shall know that the living God is among you, and that He will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Hivites and the Perizzites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Jebusites: Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is crossing over before you into the Jordan. Now therefore, take for yourselves twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man from every tribe. And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, the waters that come down from upstream, and they shall stand as a heap.”

So it was, when the people set out from their camp to cross over the Jordan, with the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people, and as those who bore the ark came to the Jordan, and the feet of the priests who bore the ark dipped in the edge of the water (for the Jordan overflows all its banks during the whole time of harvest), that the waters which came down from upstream stood still, and rose in a heap very far away at Adam, the city that is beside Zaretan. So the waters that went down into the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, failed, and were cut off; and the people crossed over opposite Jericho. Then the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan; and all Israel crossed over on dry ground, until all the people had crossed completely over the Jordan. (Jos x: 9-17)

So, from this scripture we see that the Ark of the Covenant was instrumental in leading the people into the Promised Land by deploying the strong arm of the Lord. Now let us turn our attention to the violent taking the kingdom of heaven by force.

But it came to pass on the seventh day that they rose early, about the dawning of the day, and marched around the city seven times in the same manner. On that day only they marched around the city seven times. And the seventh time it happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that Joshua said to the people: “Shout, for the LORD has given you the city! Now the city shall be doomed by the LORD to destruction, it and all who are in it. Only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all who are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. And you, by all means abstain from the accursed things, lest you become accursed when you take of the accursed things, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it. But all the silver and gold, and vessels of bronze and iron, are consecrated to the LORD; they shall come into the treasury of the LORD.”

So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. Then the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, ox and sheep and donkey, with the edge of the sword. (Jos xx: 15-21)

Once again, the Ark of the Covenant (an object found inside the Tabernacle) is instrumental in leading the nation into the warfare necessary to take the Promised Land by force. Jesus Leads Us To The Spiritual Promised Land

We have been discussing the spiritual warfare associated with the Golden Altar of Incense that is found inside the Tabernacle of Moses. We have concluded that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Golden Altar as the actions of His life demonstrate that His prayers were instrumental in bringing down the strongholds of evil and setting us free from them.

crucifixion1

Since we have been addressing spiritual warfare I believe that we should step back a bit and look at the big picture purpose of the Tabernacle. The reason for this is that the Tabernacle was an instrument of spiritual warfare in several ways. It was used as an instrument to bring the nation of Israel into a closer relationship with God. More importantly it was used as an instrument to bring the entire nation to the Promised Land, as God had promised the patriarchs. In doing this however, the nation would have to displace the evil religions and people who lived there.

The Ark of the Covenant is Carried by Priests as the Walls of Jerico Fall

The Ark of the Covenant is Carried by Priests as the Walls of Jerico Fall

With this said, let me summarize by saying that since the first of our postings we have been demonstrating that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Tabernacle. He is the Tabernacles fulfillment in that is a place where God can dwell with His people on earth. He is the instrument by which we can get to the Promised Land in heaven. One point that may surprise some however is that the fight is not over as yet. He is looking to us, His bride to be to take up His fight to drive out the evil that is blocking our passage to what has been promised. The following words from Jesus support this notion of a Promised Land for us:

Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. (John 14: 1-3)

Jesus Arises to Heaven - Mansions in the Background

Jesus Arises to Heaven - Mansions in the Background

In link manner, these words of Jesus communicate that the violent take heaven by force:

“Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. (Matt 11: 11-13)

Violence in Heaven

Violence in Heaven

So, it is going to take some time to develop this subject completely and my plan is to use the next several postings to do so. Our next posting will present some examples of how the Ark of the Covenant was instrumental in leading the people into the Promised Land.

Put on the Full Armor of Jesus

Here is another lesson of the spiritual warfare of Jesus. Our past examples we have supported the claim that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Golden Altar of Incense found in the Holy Place of the Tabernacle. Since the Jews believed the smoke that went up to heaven from the Golden Altar was symbolic of the prayers of the people, the following passage shows how our prayers before Jesus (our Golden Altar of Incense) are powerful in bringing down the strongholds of the devil. It demonstrates the power of the saint’s prayers in spiritual warfare:

In the following passage, Paul calls us to prepare ourselves for spiritual battle by putting on the uniform of the spiritual solider. Again, this includes constant prayer:

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints; and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. (Ephesians 6:11-20)

Saint Paul Preaching

Saint Paul Preaching

So in summary, anyone seeking to be like Jesus should know that Jesus was victorious in a spiritual fight that we could not win for ourselves. This victory restored dominion back to us and therein empowered us to become victorious over the forces of evil. However, just because we have dominion does not mean that all of the battles are over. Satan is still deceiving the world and as a result a war rages between the forces of good and evil. The difference now is that Jesus has given us the power to be victorious in spiritual warfare.

The only problem is that we have to know that we are in a battle and we have to know how to prepare. Like soldiers that have to go through basic and advanced training to become effective in battle, we must also be adequately prepared for warfare. This comes through prayer. We must pray ourselves through the Courtyard and into the Holy Place where the Golden Altar is found. Once there, our prayers will enable us to be able to put on the whole armor of God. But it is up to us to enter into Jesus by seeking to become like Him. All of eternity in the garden with God lies in the balance.

It is up to us to choose. On the one hand we can choose to become spiritual soldiers or relax, enjoy ourselves, live the good life and ignore the evil that is all around us. After all, is this not what Jesus was talking about in the following passage:

Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

Paul Follows in the Spirtual Warfare of Jesus, even to Death

Paul Follows in the Spirtual Warfare of Jesus, even to Death

For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works. Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom. (Matthew 16:24-28)

The Transfiguration of Jesus

The Disciples See Jesus Transfigured

Jesus wants us to take up the role of spiritual warrior and overcome evil. In our next posting we will enter into a discussion about why we should be entering into spiritual warfare.

So until then, may God bless you.

Your Prayers at Jesus our Golden Altar Have Great Power

Here is another lesson of the spiritual warfare of Jesus. This example along with the others supports the claim that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Golden Altar of Incense found in the Holy Place of the Tabernacle.

And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets. Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand. Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake. So the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.

Note the reference to the smoke and incense that are a reflection of the prayers at the Golden Altar. These prayers are not for enlightenment or for forgiveness of sin but rather for victory in spiritual warfare. They are effective in generating the wrath of God to be manifest upon the earth.

Jesus Prays Before Battle

Here is another lesson of the spiritual warfare of Jesus. This example along with the others supports the claim that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Golden Altar of Incense found in the Holy Place of the Tabernacle. Since the Jews believed the smoke that went up to heaven from the Golden Altar was symbolic of the prayers of the people, the following actions by Jesus directly support the necessity of prayer in bringing down the strongholds of the devil:

In this example, we find Jesus sending His disciples on so that He could pray prior to entering into spiritual warfare with the demon named Legion day.

Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid. And Peter answered Him and said, Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water. So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, Lord, save me!  And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, O you of little faith, why did you doubt? And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, Truly You are the Son of God. When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret. (Matthew 14:22-34)

Jesus Calming the Storm

Jesus Calming the Storm

The storm was fostered by evil spirits that attempted to sabotage Jesus victory by preventing Him and His disciples from getting to the other side. The battle with evil rages but with Jesus we have power over evil.

The bottom line here is pray always, anticipating that the call to battle can come at any time.

Spiritual Warfare Requires Prayer and Fasting

Here is another lesson of the spiritual warfare of Jesus. This example along with the others supports the claim that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Golden Altar of Incense found in the Holy Place of the Tabernacle. Since the Jews believed the smoke that went up to heaven from the Golden Altar was symbolic of the prayers of the people, the following words from Jesus directly support the necessity of prayer in bringing down the strongholds of the devil. More specifically, Jesus designates that prayer and fasting are necessary in the most difficult battles:

Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him. Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.” And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” (Matthew 17:15-21)

From other scriptures we know that Jesus both prayed and fasted prior to entering into ministry. Therefore, we should do the same.

Victory in Spiritual Warfare Through Jesus our Golden Altar

Victory in spiritual warfare comes through prayer at the Golden Altar. When we look at the life of Jesus we find Him in prayer with the Father prior to taking action. Here is an example of this:

Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me. He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Then He came to the disciples and found them asleep, and said to Peter, “What? Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.” And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy. So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. Then He came to His disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand.” And while He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, with a great multitude with swords and clubs, came from the chief priests and elders of the people. (Matthew 26:36-47)

The scene depicting Christ's last night in Gethsemane, and the disciples sleep under an olive tree.

The scene depicting Christ's last night in Gethsemane, and the disciples sleep under an olive tree.

Jesus was in prayer just prior to going to the cross. Therefore, He was enlightened and knew the things that were about to unfold. He knew that He would be betrayed and He that He would have to choose between His life and the salvation of all of us. He sought the guidance of the Father in prayer to ensure His steps were in the Fathers plan. In being faithful to the Father Jesus knew that He would be victorious over Satan and the powers of evil. He knew that He would set us all free by giving His life in exchange for ours.

The Victory of Jesus Empowers Us

In our previous postings we have presented some of the spiritual victories Jesus had over the forces of evil. To date we have discussed Jesus being victorious over an evil establishment, healing the sick and lame, casting out demons and of course, His final victory on the cross.

ELEVENTH STATION Jesus is nailed to the Cross..From the Gospel according to Matthew 27:37-42 And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, "This is Jesus the King of the Jews". Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right hand and one on the left. And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, "You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the Cross". So also the chief priests with the scribes and elders mocked him, saying, "He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the Cross and we will believe in him".

And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus the King of the Jews”. Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right hand and one on the left. And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the Cross”. So also the chief priests with the scribes and elders mocked him, saying, “He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the Cross and we will believe in him”. (Matt 27: 37-42)

In the above scripture it is clear to see that the devil is once again tempting Jesus to give up on His identity and His mission on this earth, which was to die for our sins. Once again the devil is attacking Jesus at His weakest point, when He is hanging on the cross bleeding and bruised from His passion. Jesus could have come down off of the cross but He chose to do the will of the Father and complete the task given Him in the garden of Gethsemane. Jesus had been in the Holy Place of the Tabernacle.

Jesus Prays in the Garden at Gethsemane

Jesus Prays in the Garden at Gethsemane

All of these examples support our proposition that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Golden Altar of Incense, the Holy Place and the Tabernacle of Moses. Since the entryways into the Tabernacle and the Holy Place are called; “the Way” and “the Truth” we are well on our way toward explaining what Jesus meant when He claimed to be, ‘the Way, the Truth and the Life.”

We will now look at the implications of Jesus’ victories over evil and identify their direct impact on us. The victory of Jesus on the cross set us free from the domination of the forces of evil. More than this however, Jesus has also empowered us to be victorious over all evil as well:

Remember: Peter Walked on Water until he Doubted

Remember: Peter Walked on Water until he Doubted

Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” (Luke 10:17-19)

You are empowered!

The things that Jesus did by the power of the Holy Spirit are available to those who can enter into the Holy Place of Jesus in prayer:

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. (John 14:12-14)

Jesus is Victorious on the Cross

This posting is designed to demonstrate how the life and words of Jesus demonstrate that He is the fulfillment of the Golden Altar of Incense found in the Tabernacles Holy Place. If you have not had the opportunity to review our prior postings you may find it desirable to view the following summary: Jesus-Is-The-Golden-Altar-Of-Incense. With that out of the way we can now dig into the subject of this posting.

The spiritual warfare waged between Jesus and the religious leaders of His day culminated when Jesus freely gave up His life on the cross. While it is difficult to understand, this sacrifice of the sinless Son of God was the spiritual sacrifice required to restore what man had lost with the fall of Adam. For Adam had been deceived by the devil into disobeying God and lost his dominion over the earth and his relationship with God.

Adam and Eve in the Garden

Adam and Eve in the Garden

The devil being victorious in spiritual warfare took dominion over the earth and everything in it, including man. The following passage from Paul may help clarify this a bit:

For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation. Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned; (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many. And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many offenses resulted in justification. For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)  Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous. Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Rom 5:6-21)

Jesus on the Cross

Jesus on the Cross

In other words, men would no longer have to live under the dominion of Satan because Jesus, our advocate, defeated Satan at the cross. His victory in spiritual warfare came from living without sin and not succumbing to the temptation of evil, even in the face of a cruel and painful death. For one sinned and all fell into bondage to the devil, and one died in righteousness so that all could live free inside the loving grace of God. Even those who died prior to the life of Jesus were saved:

But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.” (Now this, “He ascended”; what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? (Ephesians 4:7-9)

That is correct; Jesus went into Hell to set the captives free, as the following passage communicates:

And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many. (Matthew 27:50-53)

Talk about a victory of spiritual warfare! The dead in Hell were raised and appeared to the living. The spiritual victory of Jesus over evil was total. It even included the salvation of the righteous dead. Jesus has all power and authority over the devil, hell and the Lake of Fire and Brimstone. He has power and authority over everything. He is our Golden Altar through which our prayers are transferred to our loving Father in heaven. It is through Jesus and His Holy Spirit that we become empowered for spiritual warfare.

As we have communicated previously, the Golden Altar and all of the other objects inside the Holy Place of the Tabernacle are places of prayer. In our next posting we will look at the prayers of Jesus that enabled this and other victories over evil. Additionally, we will open the subject of how His victory empowers us in ministry.

Until then, may God’s blessings be upon you.
