Jesus Is The Way, The Truth And The Life

Jesus came to earth to save us from eternal separation from God Matt2532 by sacrificing His life as atonement acts529 for our sins. Jesus came to tell us the truth about the kingdom of heaven romans832 and the love of the Father. He came to demonstrate the Father’s love for all of us by healing the sick, casting out demons, raising the dead and preaching the gospel of the truth.

Jesus came to introduce us to His Holy Spirit and if we follow the leading of His spirit we will then do the things that He did on this earth. In following the lead of His spirit we will find that God directs us to seek the perfection that is demonstrated in the words and actions of His Son. Our investigation into Jesus, “the Life, the Truth and the Way” is designed to help us better understand His attributes, so that may instill them into our own lives. It is in this metamorphous that we will find ourselves taking up the cross of Jesus. This is where the miracles will come as we will find that we can achieve even greater works than Jesus did when He walked the earth. The following scripture offers support for the statements just made:

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. (John 14:12) Jesus answered and said to them, Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me. (Matthew 11:4-6)

Doing greater things than Jesus is an awesome thing. Just think about doing things that are greater than walking on the water matt1425, feeding a multitude with a few fish and loaves matt1532, raising the dead john1137, or being raised from the dead luke243. All the same, if we believe in Jesus then He calls us to do what He did and even greater than He did, then we must look to Him, our Teacher, to be perfectly trained and then we can be like Him. In this example, we see that training has an impact on our ability to be like Jesus:

And He spoke a parable to them: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch? A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.” (Luke 6:39-40)

One of the objectives of this work is to look at the life of Jesus like never before so that we can see the prefect model that the Father sent us. These passages further communicate God’s desire for us to become like Him. Now it is up to us to take action by moving toward this goal:

Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect. Matthew 5:48)

I (Jesus) in them, and You (God)  in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. (John 17:23)

Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,…  (Hebrews 6:1)

Identifying the Nature of Jesus

In identifying the attributes of Jesus, we will focus on the following areas:

Proclamations and Declarations Made by Jesus

One key area will be the assertions that Jesus made about his own identity. After all, in seeking Jesus it seems logical to first find out what He claimed to be. We therefore will examine the famous “I AM …” statements of the Gospel of John to provide us with a foundational understanding. Since these statements can not prove that Jesus is who He claimed to be, we will look elsewhere for supporting information.

God the Father Verifies the Proclamations of Jesus

We will also present scripture to support the claims of Jesus about His identity by way of His actions. In addition, we will present the actions of the Father that supported the claims of His Son by way of miracles that validate His identity completely. Ultimately, it is the validation of the Father that identifies the true nature and character of Jesus.

The Purpose of Jesus’ Actions

It is only when we look at the purpose of Jesus’ actions that we begin to see God’s purpose for our own existence upon this earth. His actions reveal the heart of the Father to us, His children. Jesus’ purpose was to demonstrate the Fathers’ love. This being the case, everyone who earnestly seeks God with all of their heart, soul, mind and strength mark1230 will seek to demonstrate this love as well, and in doing so become like Jesus.

The Tabernacles’ Prophesy of Christ

God told Moses to build a Tabernacle so that He (God) could dwell on earth with men ex258. To this end, God provided Moses with the specifications for this Tabernacle ex259. In addition, every detail of this specification can be found in scripture. In examining them we will find that the Tabernacle, which was to be the place where God would dwell with His people, is prophetic of the Jesus who also came to dwell with us. In essence, the Tabernacle is a model or blueprint of the Christ who would come in human form heb911 and dwell among His people. Therefore, we will find that the nature, attributes, functions and purpose of the Tabernacle line up precisely with the nature, attributes functions and purpose of Jesus the Christ.

The Spiritual Nature of Jesus’ Words

The words of Jesus were sometimes misunderstood by His disciples and others. This is because Jesus spoke in spiritual terms, of the things that He saw the Father accomplish, and of what He saw in heaven. His communication therefore, had to be in the form of parables matt1310, which are comparisons, analogies and descriptions of spiritual truth in earthly terms that we can understand:

Then His disciples asked Him, saying, “What does this parable mean?” And He said, “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is given in parables, that ‘Seeing they may not see, And hearing they may not understand.’” (Luke 8:9-10)

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life

Jesus made a number of statements about His own identity in scripture. However, the foundation of them all is the statement in which He correlates Himself to the Tabernacle built by Moses. The statement is presented here:

Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:5-6)

This statement is compelling intrinsic value as we know that Jesus is talking about being the passageway to the Father. However, the terms, “The Way, The Truth and The Life” are corollaries for the passageways (or veils) through which each chamber of the Tabernacle is entered. Interestingly, we will learn that each successive passageway leads to a progressively intimate relationship with the Father. Let us now present a scripture that confirms that Jesus viewed His body as a temple (like the Tabernacle)

:So the Jews answered and said to Him, “What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?” Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” Then the Jews said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?” But He was speaking of the temple of His body. (John 2:18-21)

In this statement Jesus is claiming to be the living Tabernacle and therefore the divine fulfillment of all prophesies regarding it. In subsequent posts we will validate this proposition by embarking on a detailed investigation of the Tabernacle. It will guide us to a complete understanding of the nature and attributes of Jesus. Until then, if you have any questions please drop us a line. We will be glad to hear from you and discuss this topic with you.

Matthew 25:32 – 41 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:  ‘for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me. “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?  ‘When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You?  Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?  And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’  Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:

Acts 5:29 – 32  But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.”

John 8:28  Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.

Romans 8:32  He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

Matthew 14:25  Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.

Matthew 15:32-39  So the multitude marveled when they saw the mute speaking, the maimed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel. Now Jesus called His disciples to Himself and said, “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. And I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way. Then His disciples said to Him, “Where could we get enough bread in the wilderness to fill such a great multitude?”  Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven, and a few little fish.”  So He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. And He took the seven loaves and the fish and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitude. So they all ate and were filled, and they took up seven large baskets full of the fragments that were left. Now those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children. And He sent away the multitude, got into the boat, and came to the region of Magdala.

John 11:37 – 44  And some of them said, “Could not this Man, who opened the eyes of the blind, also have kept this man from dying?”  Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”  Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?”  Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.”  Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!”  And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with grave clothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”

Luke 24: 3 – 7  Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?  He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’

John 14: 12  Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

Mark 12:30   ‘And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.

Exodus 25:8   And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.

Exodus 25:9   According to all that I show you, that is, the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furnishings, just so you shall make it.

Hebrews 9:11 – 12   But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

Matthew 13:10  And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”  He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says: ‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, And seeing you will see and not perceive; For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.’  But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.

Revelation 15:5  After these things I looked, and behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened.
